I find it pretty sad that a finished closet can make me so happy, but what can I say. We finished with the closet this weekend and it turned out so nice.
The closet originally had a hanging bar with shelf along the back and on one of the sides. Technically it is a walk in closet, but it's not very deep. You couldn't hang anything behind the door because then you couldn't open the door. Not designed very well if you ask me.
So I had Zan build a shelf behind the door that included shoe shelves and other shelves to hold bins for hats, mitten, etc, etc.... We then added a second shelf that comes right off the top of the built-in shelf. We have tall ceilings on the main level of the house so there's lot's of vertical height to be utilized.
I will say that staining and sealing wood project is a smelly job, but it's all done. I also painted the closet because the off-white was doing nothing for it.
The lighting is obviously tricky back in the laundry room, but you can see the great storage we now have in our closet.
It doesn't take too much these days to brighten my day. Just a perfectly organized mud room closet. Now on to the next project....

Your closet is beautiful, functional, and impressive. I bet it will get a lot more use now that it doesn't have the open spaces. It also sounds like you have a handle on the cooking.
That little thing Sammy does is really cute. He is a card.
It does sound like you guys have had enough snow. We are suppose to get a little snow each day for the next 4 days, but it isn't suppose to amount to anything. What we really miss is the sunshine. Right now I feel like I live in the part of the country that is dark for about 6 months out of the year.
Sammy is to cute!!!!Loved the video. The closet looks really nice. Could be on TLC or HGTV.You guys are always so busy building and redesigning things. Some day you will have your own show on TV teaching all the things you do. I've got the name..."The Shan and Zan Show".
Hope the new "at home" job is going as you hoped.
